A tired villa in Grey Lynn reworked into a light-filled family home — the heritage street face kept intact while the rear opens fully to garden and northern sun.
about the project
The brief asked for room to grow without losing the character that drew the owners to the street. We retained and restored the villa's front rooms, then set a crisp, low addition behind it — a clear conversation between old and new rather than a pastiche of either.
about the project
Materially the extension stays quiet: rift-sawn oak, honed concrete, and blackened steel joinery chosen to patina rather than date. Full-height glazing folds away so the kitchen and living space read as one with the garden through summer.
