Ōhope Bach — residential project in Ōhope, New Zealand

Ōhope
Bach

A modest beach bach at Ōhope built for salt, sand and easy living — a compact plan that throws open to the dune grass and the surf beyond.

about the project

The brief was refreshingly small: somewhere unfussy to gather after a day in the water. We kept the footprint tight and the detailing plain, letting a generous covered deck do the real living through the summer.

about the project

Everything is chosen to be hosed down and left alone — plywood linings, a concrete floor that runs indoors to out, and shutters that close the bach up tight when the family leaves. Low-maintenance by design, not by compromise.
