A schist-and-cedar retreat above Lake Wakatipu, sited low to the land so the alpine view leads and the architecture recedes.

The site's exposure and slope set the terms. We anchored the home with a schist base cut into the contour, then floated a lighter cedar-clad upper level that frames the lake and the Remarkables beyond.

Inside, the material logic continues — stone underfoot in the shared spaces, warm timber lining the bedrooms, and deep eaves tuning the low winter sun against the high summer glare. Built to weather the basin's extremes with grace.
